Community Profile

Eagle Bend with its population of 546 residents is close to the center of Minnesota.  It is located on U.S. Highway 71 about 150 miles northwest of Minneapolis in the heart of Minnesota's dairy country.  A half hour's drive will take you to some of the best fishing and camping in the state as well as Theaters and large shopping centers.

Eagle Bend has a lot that you don't normally find in a community this size.  There is a public library and museum complex.  The community residents pitched in and held fundraisers of every type until there was enough money to build and furnish a 42x74 handicapped accessible building.  The library is a branch of the Great River Regional Library system in St. Cloud.  The museum is maintained by the Eagle Bend Historical Society.

The businesses show the diversity of the area.  In Eagle Bend and its surrounding area, there are several businesses including recreational vehicle dealers, a custom meat locker, a flower and gift shop, a bank, a bowling alley, a welding shop, an equipment manufacturer, and a body shop.  The tallest building is the grain elevator, which is a part of Pro Ag.  Other businesses that complement our community are automotive parts and service shops, two gas convenience stores, a hair stylist, insurance agents, accountants, contractors, and a lumber & hardware supplier.  The Hilltop Regional Kitchen is currently serving over 4500 meals a month to our regional area.  These meals are part of the service provided by the Lutheran Social Services program.  Offering bundled services and hot meals to senior population to help them remain in their homes longer by providing them with nutritional meals delivered by volunteers to their home.

The Eagle Valley Clinic is affiliated with Lakewood Clinic and Lakewood Hospital.  Registered nurses, physician's assistants, and medical doctors serve on a rotating basis.  Emergency medical attention is provided by an up-to-date Rescue Squad from the Eagle Bend Volunteer Fire Department. This 18-person department is well-known and respected for their prompt response, dedication and excellent lifesaving and firefighting equipment and personnel.  They have medical training as First Responders and EMTs.  This Fire Department is one of the best trained and well-equipped departments in the area.  They not only serve the city of Eagle Bend, but are contracted with Eagle Valley, Germania, Bertha, Wykeham, Burleene townships.

In Eagle Bend, you can keep busy with a variety of activities.  There are 3 city parks which host a variety of fun activities. Nelson Park, the largest park in town, has a regulation size basketball court, a sand volleyball court, a 1/4-mile tarred walking path, and a picnic shelter, At the Lion's Park, you will find a small playground, a softball field, and a picnic shelter. The Highway Park has easy access from Hwy 71 with a picnic shelter and clean restrooms. Eagle Lanes is a bowling alley that offers open bowling and league competition. Just 20 minutes from Eagle Bend is the Long Prairie Drive-In, which hosts outdoor movies and brings back the ambiance of the old drive-ins of the past. 

There are many active 4-H clubs, church youth groups and school sponsored events are available to all area youth. 

Within three miles of the city is the Double Eagle Golf Course.  It has a unique layout, featuring a nine-hole reverse course that provides 18 totally different holes.  A pro shop and supper club are also at the site.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars share their club with the Auxiliary and the American Legion.  They rent space to the Eagle Bend Lion's for charitable gambling (pull-tabs) and progressive bingo every Saturday night. Much of their profits are donated to other local organizations and schools.  The V.F.W. hosts special nights of meals to keep their club very active. 

There are several study groups, Lions Club, Development Corporation, Friends of the Library and other civic and community organizations who donate their time and talents.  Eagle Bend has alot to offer.  Tennessee may be the "volunteer state", but Eagle Bend could be called the "Volunteer City".

The religious needs of the community are served by two Lutheran churches, a Methodist church and the Assemblies of God.  Catholic churches are located in our neighboring towns.
